It's been a great year for JMU/AITP! At one of our final meetings of the year, our officers for next year were chosen. The JMU/AITP student officers for 2005-2006 are: Jonathan Albert: President, Erin Vaughan: Vice-President, Chris Rielly: Treasurer, and Molly Herbstritt: Webmaster. Congratulations! Tonight's meeting also included pizza and soda, as well as Easter candy donated by Meredith West. There was also a lot of discussion about the 2005 AITP NCC conference that Greg, Jonathan, Joe, Nick, Courtney, and Laurie, as well as Drs. Kruck and Dillon are attending from April 7-9. Good luck, have a great time, and make JMU proud!

Tonight's meeting included more preparations for the conference and a presentation by Mr. Neal Menefee, President and CEO of the Rockingham Insurance Group, which operates in both Virginia and Pennsylvania and has been around since the late 1800's. He spoke about the impact of technology on medium-sized businesses and how IT has changed the way the company has done business. He then gave us a few pointers about interviewing, what qualities in students that companies are looking for, and ideas about where we might want to begin our careers. After his presentation, the 7 students attending the conference met for about 15 minutes and ironed out final details. We are also in the process of setting up a JMU/AITP-only job search portal in conjunction with an outside provider.

This meeting was strictly dedicated to AITP NCC prep. We've got the final head count and we have 7 students going and a few professors. We discussed costs, transportation, and the competitions we're going to enter. Courtney and Laurie are making good progress on the new website and we're really excited about entering it into the NCC student chapter website. Everyone needs to send in their money ($195) and registration forms, and Greg is going to make hotel reservations. It's finally coming together!

Tonight's meeting included pizza(!) and a presentation by Mr. Michael Carrier about certifications. Mr. Carrier introduced his business, which provides certifications to people in Harrisonburg and its surrounding areas. After Mr. Carrier's presentation, we discussed the NCC in more depth. We've got about 7 students going, and we've also decided that we want to enter our website for the student chapter website competition. Laurie and Courtney have graciously offered to re-design it so we actually have a chance at making the finals.

Tonight's meeting was a presentation by Ms. Marie Hansbrough about her company Booz Allen Hamilton, where she's worked for about a year. Unfortunately, we had a lot of no-shows at tonight's meeting because of Marching Band and various other activities, but the early time couldn't be avoided so we could accommodate with Ms. Hansbrough's schedule. Ms. Hansbrough discussed the history of Booz Allen Hamilton, why she chose that company for the beginning of her career, and why we should consider interviewing with them for either an internship or full-time position. We also fired Chris Wood as our "go-to" guy and replaced him with a social chair, Meredith West.

Welcome back AITP! Our first meeting was to discuss recruiters coming to JMU and the process of signing up for MadisonTrak. We have also added an Education page to our website, in hopes that we can get some study groups going for IT classes. Also, if you want to become a tutor, make sure to contact Jon Albert, our Education chair. We have also confirmed that Marie Hansbrough, from Booze Allen, will be attending our next meeting as our guest speaker. After the recruiter presentation, the AITP National Collegiate Conference was discussed to see if there was any interest. As of right now, it looks like we have about 10 students and a few professors who expressed interest. Further information about the conference will be provided at future meetings.
